PETALING JAYA: Malaysians are responding to Dr. Tan Sri Noor Hisham Abdullah’s call to step up to help leaders combat the third wave of Covid-19.
The call from the Director General of Health through Facebook has so far generated 1,000 comments and 6,100 actions.
The same post was tweeted and garnered nearly 3,000 retweets yesterday.
In addition to positive feedback, many asked how they could become leaders or help those who were exhausted.
Respondents included those with no related experience.
Ajira Hakim, who dropped out of school, said he wanted to help front-line doctors.
“I am 18 years old, can I volunteer too? I am aware that the Ministry of Health needs more manpower to handle the pandemic. If possible, I am willing to offer my help to look after the well-being of Malaysians, ”he said on Facebook.
Teacher Hanzalah Zullkeflee noted that he had more time since his school closed and the teaching was done through online distance learning.
“I look forward to serving and helping,” he said.
Another user, Sitiameh Ruman, also approved all the volunteers and said that they could come to Sabah, which had a growing number of Covid-19 cases.
Nadraja Gopala Krishnan noted that she did not have the relevant background, but that she still wanted to do what she could.
“Tan Sri, I am not from a scientific or medical background, is there any possibility (for me) to be part of the volunteering? Maybe I can help with the labor, ”he said.
Others suggested that the ministry recruit nursing students who could use the experience as part of their training.
Po Din, another user, noted that at least these students would benefit from hands-on experience.
One Twitter user, who claimed to be a former nurse, said she would gladly fill contract positions.
However, some people said the government should step in to create more paid job opportunities instead of asking for volunteers.
