PUTRAJAYA: Staying at home is the best method to stop the current wave of Covid-19 that is affecting the country, says Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The director general of Health said that while there are many “strategies” to avoid contracting the virus from another person, nothing better than avoiding contact with other people completely.
“The advice of the ministry is always that people follow this strategy that involves six methods. They are applying physical distancing, wearing face masks, constantly washing their hands, combined with avoiding crowded areas, confined spaces, and close conversations.
“If you apply this six-method strategy, you can break the chain of infection by up to 85%.
“However, if you want to break the chain 100%, stay home. That’s the best way of all, ”Dr. Noor Hisham said at a press conference here on Monday (October 19).
The director general of Health was asked if the government intends to tighten the standard operating procedure (SOP) considering that the number of cases has continued to increase.
“What we have implemented in Sabah and Klang Valley is the conditional movement control order (MCO) where the economic sector is allowed to open, but we close the educational, social and sports sector.
“We have previous experience in overcoming the Covid-19 wave, in March. The message then is the same today, which is to stay home.
“We need to go back to this method that has worked well for us in the past,” said Dr. Noor Hisham.
Malaysia’s Covid-19 cases continued at the 800 mark for three days, with 865 new cases reported on Monday.
