The chief of the armed forces, Affendi Buang, says that the cyber attack was detected early and did not affect the operations of the portal.

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) confirmed today that its website and database were recently hacked, in an attempt to steal information from the government.

Its boss, Affendi Buang, said the incident was detected by the MAF’s Cyber Electromagnetic Command and Cyber Defense Operations Center, both of which had implemented network segregation to hide the location of classified data.

“The cyberattack did not affect the actual operations of the portal and only managed to hack into certain segments that have been placed outside the network from the beginning.

“MAF is also aware of ongoing attempts at cyberattacks on information networks owned by the Ministry of Defense and MAF,” it said in a statement.

Affendi said the armed forces were constantly monitoring the situation.

He said they were routinely working to improve the cybersecurity of the forces to protect the national defense strategic communication network.
