The advisory and warning stage is over, do we want to go through MCO again?

KUALA LUMPUR: The stage of giving advice and issuing warnings to those who ignore the rules and standard operating procedure of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) is over.

That was the point highlighted by Chief Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob when he reacted to the report by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) of the many cases of non-compliance with CMCO rules and SOP across the country. .

Ismail Sabri may have issued that warning, as many people appear to have mocked the CMCO just 10 days after it was imposed on May 4.

This was obvious in many places, especially in shopping malls and markets, including in the workplace, where regulations and government-established SOPs are disregarded.

This situation reflects the lack of seriousness among the public about government efforts and the sacrifices of leaders who work hard to break the chain of Covid-19 infection.

Perhaps the current numbers of Covid-19 cases have made us all complacent. For example, only 16 new positive cases were recorded yesterday, the lowest number since the Movement Control Order (MCO) was imposed on March 18.

Therefore, it is not surprising that yesterday the government has decided that the advisory and warning stage has ended and that those who violate the CMCO SOP will face legal action.

According to Ismail Sabri Yaakob, under the Infectious Diseases Prevention and Control Act of 1988 (Law 342), these people can be sentenced to a fine of up to RM1,000 or six months in prison, or both, if they are found guilty .

As such, he said, the public must either continue to comply with the regulations and SOPs established under the CMCO or face the possibility of the MCO being reintroduced.

So it is we, the people, who must realize that we determine whether the MCO ends or not.

It is bad enough that many of us cannot return to our cities to celebrate Aidilfitri this year due to the CMCO. Don’t let the same thing repeat for Hari Raya Aidiladha after that.

As CEO of Health, Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, “let’s show the world that we can create history by breaking the Covid-19 chain of transmission and preventing a second wave from happening.” – Bernama
