BANGKOK, Aug 29 (The Nation Thailand / ANN): The Center for Covid-19 Situation Management (CCSA) reported a new case in state quarantine over a 24-hour period on Saturday (Aug 29), the 96th no domestic cases in Thailand since May.
The new patient had returned from Holland.
The total number of confirmed cases in Thailand stood at 3,411 (474 in state quarantine), of which 111 are in hospital and 3,242 have recovered and been discharged. The death toll remains unchanged at 58.
As of 10 a.m. (Thailand time), the total number of confirmed cases globally rose to 24.9 million. Of these, 17.29 million have recovered, while more than 841,000 have died so far.
Thailand ranks 121st in most cases in the world, while the US has the highest number with 6.09 million, followed by Brazil 3.81 million, India 3.46 million, Russia 980.405 and Peru 629.961 .
Meanwhile, the sensational news came of the day when, in an alleged suicide case, a Yemeni boxer jumped to his death from his hotel room in Chiang Mai province.
The Chang Phueak Police Station in Muang District was informed about the fall of a man from a hotel located on Chang Phueak Road in the Sriphum Sub-district overnight on Friday (August 28).
The police found the body of Ahmed al-Aidros, 23, a Yemeni national, with multiple injuries caused by the fall. The police questioned his Thai girlfriend on the fifth floor of the hotel.
He reportedly told police that the deceased was a boxer who had been living in Thailand for more than two years and had participated in various boxing tournaments in Thailand.
“Two days ago, he picked me up in Phuket to take a trip to Chiang Mai,” he said.
“We talked last night about how I couldn’t find a boxing job due to Covid-19 before going to bed as we planned to travel to Phrae the next day. Then I saw him go out onto the balcony, probably to smoke a cigarette, I thought, but he didn’t come back until I got up to check it out and saw that he had already jumped ”.
Police speculated that the deceased may have decided to commit suicide due to the stress of being out of work.
The body of the deceased was sent to Maharaj Nakhon Chiang Mai Hospital for a detailed autopsy and to determine the cause of death. The police have also informed the Yemeni consulate general office in Bangkok to contact the relatives of the deceased. – The Nation Thailand / Asian News Network
