KLUANG: An inoperative textile factory located in the Mengkibol industrial area here has been badly damaged in a fire early in the morning on Saturday (September 19).
Johor Zone 3 Fire and Rescue Department Operations Commander Mohamed Faiz Muin Mohamed Rasidi said the fire broke out around 2 a.m. at Jalan Teknologi 2.
Four fire trucks from the Kluang, Renggam and Ayer Hitam fire stations were deployed to the scene after an emergency call was received around 2.30 am.
A team of 35 firefighters jumped into action to put out the blaze upon reaching the 3,716-square-meter factory, he said.
“Efforts to put out the fire have continued since we arrived at the scene at 2.42 am, and we expect to take more than 12 hours to completely extinguish it.
“The packaged storage and cotton textiles at the factory made it difficult for us to put out the fire,” he said at the scene.
He added that the textile factory had not been operating for the past six months and that no one was in the building when the fire broke out.
Faiz Muin added that an investigation is underway to find the cause of the fire and the losses.
