PETALING JAYA: Interstate and interdistrict travel bans have been rescinded, regardless of whether an area is still under the conditional movement control order (MCO) or not, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said the decision was made because of the need to balance public health and economic stability.
“Life must go on. So, various restrictions have been relaxed after the National Security Council meeting where all parties, including the Ministry of Health, discussed the issue.
“Among the agreed upon issues is that interstate and interdistrict travel will now be allowed throughout the country, except in areas under an enhanced MCO.
“Police permission is no longer required,” he said.
He added that as of tomorrow the police would stop having checkpoints at state borders.
The focus will now be on compliance with standard operating procedure (SOP), Ismail Sabri said.
“The important thing is that the public must follow the SOP. This is one of the ways to reduce Covid-19 infections.
“The police will be everywhere now to ensure compliance,” he said.
On tourism, Ismail Sabri said that a meeting would be held with the Ministry of Tourism, Art and Culture to identify what would be allowed to open and what should remain closed.
He also noted that travel to Sabah for social visits would now be allowed.
However, all who enter Sabah must undergo RT-PCR (reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) or RTK antigen (rapid test kit antigen) Covid-19 three days prior to travel.
“Only those who have no symptoms and test negative for Covid-19 will be allowed to enter Sabah.
“Police permission is no longer required to leave Sabah and travel between districts,” he added.
Ismail Sabri also said that a passenger limit would not be imposed on vehicles and that it will now be according to the capacity of each vehicle.
