(Reuters) – Rafa Nadal’s record of 13 individual French Open titles is one of the sport’s greatest achievements of all time and is unlikely to be broken, Andy Murray said.
Spaniard Nadal beat Novak Djokovic 6-0 6-2 7-5 in the Roland Garros final on Sunday to tie Roger Federer for 20 Grand Slam titles.
“It’s an amazing achievement,” Murray told reporters in Cologne before an ATP 250 event. “I don’t think what (Nadal) has done at Roland Garros is ever surpassed.
“He’s one away from winning the same amount in a single tournament that Pete Sampras did in Grand Slams.
“I think it is one of the best records in the sport, perhaps the best.
“I don’t think it will ever be repeated and I don’t really think anyone will come close.”
Of the ‘Big Three’, Murray thought it would be Nadal or Djokovic (17 majors) who would end their careers with the most Grand Slam titles.
“As long as everyone stays in shape and if they all retire at the same age, then I would think it would be between Rafa and Novak,” he said.
