PETALING JAYA: An Enhanced Motion Control (TEMCO) order was imposed at Alor Setar Prison in Kedah, following a spike in Covid-19 cases.
The Malaysian Ministry of Health previously confirmed an increase in positive cases at Alor Setar Kedah Federal Prison.
“With this in mind, the government, following the advice of the Ministry of Health, has imposed TEMCO administratively in prisons, including staff accommodation for 14 days. This will be effective from 12:01 tonight, ”said Chief Minister (Defense) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pix) it said today in a statement.
“During this period, no movement in and out of the areas involved will be allowed and visits from the families of the detainees will be suspended.”
A total of 433 people were arrested yesterday for violating the recovery movement control order.
“Sixty of them were sent to pretrial detention, while the remaining 345 received compounds and 28 were released on bail,” Ismail said.
The crimes committed were not wearing masks (157), ignoring social distancing (46), not providing equipment for the contact tracing record (49), attending activities in nightclubs and bars (126), gambling activities (36 ), employ foreign workers without proper permits (18), and enter the country undocumented (1).
It said 2,175 teams under the compliance working group conducted checks at 12,572 locations, including supermarkets, restaurants, street vendors, factories, banks, government offices, and land, water and air transportation terminals.
He said that Ops Benteng involving the Armed Forces, the police, the Malaysian Maritime Control Agency and the Malaysian Border Security Agency had yesterday arrested a total of 76 illegal immigrants and one smuggler.
A total of 27 illegal immigrants were detained by the Royal Malaysian Armored Corps for not having valid identification documents and for attempting to leave Malaysia via an unguarded road around the Tiara Hotel, Desaru, Bandar Penawar, Johor.
