The fire that damaged items inside the surau at Kampung Gita Laut yesterday.
KUCHING (October 10): Police arrested a teenager for allegedly arson and vandalism in Kampung Gita Laut at around 7:50 am yesterday.
The suspect had allegedly set fire inside the village mosque, which destroyed your audio equipment, cabinets, and other items used to pray.
Villagers who managed to put out the fire in the surau also managed to arrest the suspect before turning him over to the police.
Before the fire, the suspect also destroyed several flower pots and decorations outside a nearby kindergarten.
“The suspect is believed to suffer from a mental disorder that worsened during the motion control warrant,” Kuching District Police Chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said in a statement last night.
It added that the suspect was later taken to Sarawak General Hospital for a medical check-up and a health evaluation.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 436 and Section 427 of the Penal Code.
