LONDON (Reuters) – A “technical error” caused parts of a congratulatory message to US President Donald Trump to be visible in an official tweet congratulating Joe Biden on British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, he said Tuesday. a government spokesperson.
He said the government had prepared two different statements because the contest was so close, but that a technical error meant that parts of the alternate message were embedded in the background of the Biden congratulatory graphic.
Early Tuesday, Guido Fawkes’ website posted an image of the tweet after adjusting the image’s contrast and brightness levels. It seemed to show Trump’s name, the words “second term” and “about his future” in the background of the tweet congratulating Biden.
“Unsurprisingly, two statements were prepared in advance for the outcome of this highly contested election. A technical error meant that parts of the alternative message were embedded in the background of the graphic,” a government spokesman said.
