Teacher in Johor tests positive for Covid-19

JOHOR BARU: A high school teacher here tested positive for Covid-19 after being in close contact with a case related to the Bakawali group.

The chairman of the state health and environment executive committee, R. Vidyananthan, said the teacher was infected with Covid-19 by her husband, who also tested positive.

“The husband is among the nine close contacts who have tested positive in the Bakawali group,” she said here on Thursday (October 1).

He stressed that the department has carried out decontamination at the husband’s workplace, which is a laboratory, adding that it has since been closed.

Vidyananthan said that all laboratory personnel were also tested for Covid-19 and ordered to stay home for 14 days.

“We have also conducted research and tracing of close contacts between teachers and students,” he added.

Vidyananthan said these close contacts have also been screened and told to stay home for 14 days.

“As of Wednesday (September 30), the department has identified 157 close contacts where 70 showed negative results while 87 awaited results,” he added.

He also said that as of Wednesday, the cumulative Covid-19 case reported in Johor is 767 cases with 15 active, 731 discharged cases and 21 deaths.
