‘Take out, don’t dine at home,’ advises SDMC president

KUCHING: Senior Deputy Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas is advising residents of the Kuching district to ‘cover up’ or buy take-out instead of eating, following a growing trend of Covid-19 cases in the district involving food outlets.

He said many of the positive cases in the district lately can be traced back to close contacts who went to cafes and restaurants in the districts.

“In view of the increasing number of positive cases in the Kuching district involving cafes and restaurants, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) wishes to advise Kuching residents to buy their food to go or ‘tapau’.

“You can also order your food online,” he said.

Uggah spoke at the committee’s daily Covid-19 update press conference here today.

Apart from that, the president of the SDMC also advised the inhabitants of Sarawak not to travel unnecessarily to the red zone districts, namely Kuching.

The same goes for those in the Kuching district, he said, warning them not to travel outside the district, at least for another two weeks.

Uggah also encouraged employers and department heads to allow their employees and subordinates to work from home for at least the next two weeks or until more directives are announced.

Meanwhile, Uggah advised the public not to spread unverified news from lists of alleged high-risk areas on social media, as this may cause confusion among the public.

He said that only SDMC has the authority to publish the list of high-risk areas.

“I have seen a lot of these fake news and unverified lists on social media. I urge the public to stop spreading them on social media. Only the SDMC is authorized to publish such lists.

“There is no benefit in spreading this fake and unverified news. So please help out and stop spreading this fake news, ”Uggah said.

In another note, Uggah said that with the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) to be held next Monday, DUN Secretary Pele Peter Tinggom will announce tomorrow (November 3) the standard operating procedure (SOP) that the DUN members and other visitors. .

“He will announce it tomorrow as he is the secretary of DUN. Yes (there has been a circular) even for me to go to the screening three days before the session. Pele will announce the details tomorrow, ”he said.
