Tajuddin Rahman is the new president of the Prasarana group

Former Deputy Minister Tajuddin Abdul Rahman had previously held numerous senior positions at various companies in the auto industry.

KUALA LUMPUR: Prasarana Malaysia Bhd has announced the appointment of Member of Parliament Pasir Salak, Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, as Chairman of the group as of May 11.

In a statement today, the company said the seasoned businessman replaced former Malayan chief judge Zaharah Ibrahim, who resigned on May 7.

“The Prasarana group’s board and management have complete confidence in Tajuddin’s wisdom and credentials to drive the transformation program in domestic public transport and to strengthen Malaysia’s world-class public transport system entrusted to us. .

“The board of directors, senior management and the entire workforce of the Prasarana group want to express our appreciation and gratitude to Zaharah for his services when he was president,” he said.

Tajuddin, a native of Perak, graduated from the University of Malaya with a degree in Economics in 1972, the same year that he began his civil service career as an administrative and diplomatic officer.

He then ventured into the private sector in 1973, where he held numerous senior positions at various companies within the automotive industry.

“He was the group managing director of United Assembly (Services) Sdn Bhd, United Straits Fuso Sdn Bhd, Automotive Corporation (M) Sdn Bhd and United Cycle Sdn Bhd,” said Prasarana.

In addition to the auto industry, he said Tajuddin is also involved in property development and the private higher education sector as president of TAJ International College in Ipoh.

He also held several important roles in the corporate world, such as the director of the Perak Agricultural Development Corporation (2005-2008), the director of Bhd of Asia Brands Corporation (2006-2007), the director of BHD of Maju Perak Holdings ( 2009-2011) and the president of Felcra Bhd (2008-2013).

Prasarana said that as a politician, Tajuddin held various positions at Umno since 1975, including as youth chief Pasir Salak Umno (1982-1988), formerly of the Umno Youth Movement (1986-1988), division chief Pasir Salak Umno (from 2004 to now ) and Member of the Supreme Council of Umno (from 2009 until now).

He has been a Member of Parliament for Pasir Salak since 2008 and was previously a Kampung Gajah State Assemblyman, Perak (2004-2008).

He was also vice minister of agricultural and agroindustrial industry from 2013 to 2018.
