PUTRAJAYA: Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has formally applied for registration of a new political movement, known as the Malaysia United Democratic Alliance, or Muda.

The Muar deputy went to the headquarters of the Registrar of Companies (ROS) here to submit the application on Thursday (September 17).

Speaking to reporters, Syed Saddiq, who served as the Minister of Youth and Sports during the Pakatan Harapan administration, said that despite the name, Muda will not limit the age of its members.

“This party will represent all levels of society, regardless of race, religion and age.

“This party welcomes those who share our ideology, idealism, understanding and our struggle.

“Muda will be a party for all races and religions, whose leaders will be a majority of young people,” he said.

When asked if he will be the president of Muda, Syed Saddiq said he would announce the party structure later.

He said that many have shown interest in joining the party.

“They are eager to bring new policies into the country, so that we are no longer bogged down with the old policies that have made it difficult for us to move forward,” he said.

Syed Saddiq was previously the army chief of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) before being fired in May.
