KUCHING (November 13): The state government approved the appeals of 82,000 households and 40,000 singles in the B40 category that were left out of the Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) aid packages.

In announcing this, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg in his liquidation speech said that the payment of RM 250 per month for six months for the 82,000 households will start this year, while the single RM500 for singles in the B40 category will start this year. It will be paid in December of this year.

“With this announcement, the GPS government has spent RM 943 million to date, of which RM 800 million has been paid to those on the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) system and RM 143 million has been they will pay out the 82,000 households (who appealed) and 40,000 B40 singles that qualified but were previously out.

“This means that the GPS government under the BKSS scheme has spent a total of RM943 million on a total of 479,000 households and 432,000 B40 singles in the state, or a total of 921,000 Sarawakians.

“That is the largest among all the states in the country and the second largest after Prihatin national aid,” he said.

Abang Johari said that the state government has spent almost RM800 million for the payment of BKSS to 397,000 households and 392,000 B40 singles in the state, which has alleviated their financial difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Seeing the economic impact caused by the pandemic, particularly in the lowest income group, he said that the state government had decided to consider appeals made by those who were left out of BKSS aid.

He explained that the state government uses IRB records to approve BKSS recipients, but apparently there are still some who do not have records in the IRB database.

“Based on appeals received after the closing date of May 31, 2020, about 82,000 households and 40,000 B40 singles qualified for BKSS,” he said.
