KUALA LUMPUR: Police were forced to shoot into a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle, with two people believed to be under the influence of drugs inside, when it fled after attempting to collide with two police officers in Jalan Gurney and Jalan Raja Chulan last Thursday.

The incident occurred around 4.45pm when a police team spotted a 4WD Nissan Frontier in Jalan Gurney being driven by a 24-year-old man and woman as a passenger, in a suspicious manner.

Wangsa Maju District Police Chief Superintendent Rajab Ahad Ismail said police ordered the 26-year-old driver to stop but did not do so.

Instead, the driver sped towards Jalan Tun Razak before getting caught in a traffic jam. When a police officer approached the vehicle, the driver tried to ram him (police) and this caused the policeman to fire a shot that hit the rear tire of the 4WD.

“However, the suspect recklessly drove into the city, colliding with several vehicles on the road before nearly colliding with a traffic policeman in Jalan Raja Chulan,” he said in a statement today.

Rajab said that the police finally arrested the suspects in front of Lot 10, Bukit Bintang.

The two suspects were found to have fled for fear of being arrested by police for being under the influence of drugs, he said, adding that tests carried out on their urine were both positive.

He said the man was also found to have 10 previous records for drug, robbery and burglary cases.

Both suspects are in preventive detention for five days until Tuesday for their investigation.Called
