Giovani Lo Celso delivered a decisive punch just 35 seconds after his presentation from the bench to cement Tottenham’s case as a true title challenger.
Spurs he made a great start and broke the deadlock in the first five minutes thanks to his South Korean feel.
Tanguy Ndombele was given little time with the ball in midfield, and chose prowler Son Heung-min who played on the shoulder of the last defender.
The fit forward made no mistake with his shot, duly dispatching his shot past Ederson to open the scoring.
Their lead was nearly doubled moments later, but a quick and dynamic Spurs counterattack that culminated with Harry Kane hitting the ball into the empty net was all for naught as the offside flag waved the England center forward.
City of man The response was fast and furious. By controlling most of the possession, several threatening opportunities were created as Tottenham’s defense began to gradually weaken.
The final pass was proving difficult to make, and when it finally came, VAR came to the Spurs’ rescue.
A ball cut into the area found Gabriel Jesús, but the Brazilian controlled the ball with the help of his right hand. His clipping found the unusually advanced Aymeric Laporte, who magnificently swept his shot home.
However, upon inspection of his courtside monitor, Mike Turn judged that Jesus had handled the ball and duly ruled out the possible tie.

The rest of the half played out as both coaches would have predicted.
Tottenham were content to sit deep and looked dangerous when given the rare opportunity to counterattack. While City unleashed no fewer than 11 efforts in the first half, none of which were able to restore parity to scores.
Despite having the talent of Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling and Sergio Agüero on the bench, Pep Guardiola opted to send the same eleven for the second half.
Kevin De Bruyne whistled a low shot just beyond Hugo Lloris’ far post and appeared to be the most likely candidate to lead his team to the same terms as Tottenham continued to hold out.
Instead, it was Tottenham who produced the next goal of the game in a real blow to City’s hopes.
A fumble gave Toby Alderweireld a chance to punt, his pass landing perfectly for Harry Kane.
He, in turn, drove on the City baseline before feeding substitute Giovani Lo Celso, who landed his spike on Ederson’s legs just 35 seconds after his introduction to action.

Man City’s much anticipated comeback never got underway as José Mourinho’s tactics and the compromising performances of his stars continued to frustrate his opponents.
However, it was not all good news for Tottenham, as Alderweireld appeared to suffer a groin injury that will leave Mourinho with an anxious wait.
Ruben Dias squandered a glorious opportunity to set up a grandstand shot when he nodded with a De Bruyne ball straight into Lloris.
It didn’t matter, though, as City’s moderate counterattack time ran out when Tottenham ran out of winners 2-0.
