SEPANG (Bernama): The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, has asked that all fatwa be positively accepted as they can strengthen the faith of the ummah, and should not be considered restrictive or oppressive.
He said the institution of the mufti should provide sufficient time for consultation, including holding discussions with various stakeholders, by addressing unprecedented new issues to ensure that the facts can be analyzed in depth and comprehensively before the fatwa is issued. .
“Keep in mind that more ummah have been exposed to more open educational resources, are highly intelligent, curious, engage in critical thinking, do comparative research and benchmarking, and don’t accept anything easily without being convinced.
“Advances in communication technology have changed the role, response, and acceptance of fatwa in modern society.
“In the Internet age, there has been an emergence of many websites that contain various fatwa, which can be referred to as an alternative source (to get fatwa),” he said when inaugurating the Multaqa of the Fatwa Councils of Malaysia. here on Tuesday (Sept. 22).
Sultan Nazrin said that the fatwa issue does not end at the fatwa issuance stage, but rather the dissemination and explanation mechanism must be implemented through an effective communication plan so that the fatwa can be understood, accepted and appreciated. – Bernama
