KUALA LUMPUR: The government has received several proposals to address the increase in Covid-19 cases in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur despite the conditional movement control order (MCO), says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Chief Minister (Security) said the proposals include a stricter standard operating procedure (SOP) and proactive measures in towns that are still in the yellow zone category.

“We will take those views into account and discuss them in more detail.

“They told me that the National Security Council (NSC) will produce its proposals soon,” he said during his daily briefing on Monday (November 2).

Careful considerations must be made before making any decisions, he added.

“We don’t want to bypass the economic sector in Selangor or Kuala Lumpur as it will increase the hardships for people, especially those of the lowest income group.

“At the same time, we want to safeguard their well-being and health. We have to balance both needs, it is not easy,” he said.

On the other hand, a POE for Batu Sapi’s upcoming by-elections will be announced once it is finalized, Ismail said.

“I believe that the by-elections will continue as voting is a right of all Malaysian citizens.

“However, the SOP will be stricter. The Electoral Commission will announce it once it is finalized,” he added.
