Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki urged the member to return to the original party struggle to fight for the people.

PETALING JAYA: Umno Youth has called on party members to step away from the current political controversy among their leaders and instead focus on helping people whose lives are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

This comes as a result of certain wing leaders calling on Umno President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to “take a break” from his duties.

The head of Youth, Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, said that the pandemic had already affected people’s lives; creating a political crisis would only make things worse.

“In the midst of the pandemic crisis, a political controversy, either within or between parties, is the last thing people want to see or get involved in,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Asyraf urged party members to return to their original struggle to protect and fight for the well-being of the people.

He said the Umno leadership should focus on issues that are most important to the well-being of the people, such as pushing for the extension of the moratorium, the implementation of i-Sinar and other financial assistance during the motion control order (MCO) .

Earlier this week, the head of the Pontian Umno Youth, Mohd Helmi Buang, had urged Zahid to resign, citing the need for new blood; Zool Amali Hussin, head of the Seremban Umno Youth, agreed with him.

Mustafa Shah Abdul Hamid, a former member of Umno Youth, said that Umno should follow the example of other parties that have never asked their presidents to resign, even when things have turned sour.
