Shafie Apdal says there was no problem with his Sabahan condition when he was with the BN.

PETALING JAYA: Warisan President Shafie Apdal called on the opposition for what he called “tagging tactics” to break unity in Sabah.

He targeted Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) for a special mention, saying the party has continued to raise questions about its status as the leader of all Sabahans, the Borneo Post reported.

“Don’t use race and religion. We don’t use race and religion to build the nation because this is Malaysia.

“I am the Prime Minister (in charge) of Sabah. He is not the prime minister of Bajau, Kedayan, Dusun, but the chief minister of the Sabah people regardless of religion and race, ”he said.

Shafie was responding to allegations that he is an illegal immigrant who was allegedly given by PCS because of his Bajau roots.

“The Bajaus are natives of Sabah. I was born in Semporna. My grandmother was buried in Semporna.

“My grandmother’s father was buried in Semporna. My grandmother’s mother was also buried there. And yet they say I am a Pati (illegal immigrant), ”said Shafie, according to the Sarawak daily.

He added that the Warisan party has also been labeled in the same way due to its roots in Semporna, on the east coast of Sabah.

The former federal minister under the BN administration also reminded his opponents of his rise in the coalition earlier.

“Before I was a hero in BN, but when you fight BN, you face difficulties. You fight BN, you become Pati. Since when did I become a refugee? “

Noting his efforts for the people of Sabah, Shafie added that his policies are never based on race or religion.

“That’s why when the churches asked for help, I gave it to them, and when the Chinese schools asked for the same, they also received help.

“I have Chinese grandchildren because my son married a Chinese Melanau from Sarawak,” he said.
