PETALING JAYA: Amanah President Mohamad Sabu has called on his Pakatan Harapan (PH) allies to support the old ruling coalition and its leader, PKR President Anwar Ibrahim.
This comes amid a call from a DAP youth leader for PH to disband in case Anwar does not apologize for instructing against a bloc vote on the 2021 budget in Dewan Rakyat on Thursday.
PH leaders have come under heavy criticism after the opposition failed to rally the support of 15 deputies to force a bloc vote. This led to the budget being approved by voice vote.
Mohamad, popularly known as Mat Sabu, said that in each alliance, each had their strengths and weaknesses.
“Once we come together, it is difficult to go our separate ways due to our relationship and our common struggle.
“The same goes for our relationship with (former prime minister) Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. When there were voices urging me to leave him and attack him, I said ‘no.’
This, Mohamad said, was because PH had worked with him to oppose a powerful government in the 14th general election.
He said the relationship between the Pakatan Harapan and Anwar parties dates back 20 years.
“Together, we went through difficulties for the same fight. This (relationship) must be defended ”.
Mohamad said that weaknesses can be rectified and that what is important is unity and friendship, while making new allies.
This, he said, had been his position, even with other parties with which he had allied himself.
