KOTA KINABALU: Spas, reflexology and wellness centers and public parks in Sabah will be able to reopen next Tuesday (February 23), says the state’s Minister of Housing and Local Government, Datuk Masidi Manjun.
He said standard operating procedures for the reopening of spas, reflexology and wellness centers were being implemented and published.
“It will come into effect on February 23 after its publication,” he said during his daily briefing on Friday (February 19).
His statement comes after reflexology and wellness associations questioned why the state government did not allow their centers to open, as similar centers were allowed to operate in Peninsular Malaysia.
As for dinners, he said that restaurants, coffee shops and food courts, among others, will be able to operate from 6 a.m. to midnight under the conditional motion control order, which took effect on Friday.
On a question about appeals by tourism actors to lift the district’s travel ban, Masidi said the National Security Council (NSC) was investigating the matter.
He said that the state government was fully aware of the tourism industry’s need for the national tourism movement to help the industry that has been severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“One of the reasons we were able to withdraw our Covid-19 cases is due to the inter-district travel ban. We understand the concerns of the tourism sector. The government is investigating it,” he said, adding that the overriding factor remains in efforts to win the war against Covid-19.
