KUALA LUMPUR: The vote on the 2021 budget in the Dewan Rakyat, initially scheduled for Thursday (November 26), is likely to be delayed until next Monday (November 30).
A well-placed source said The star the vote on the budget could possibly be delayed.
“My ministry was supposed to present the summary today (Wednesday, November 25), but it was postponed until tomorrow (Thursday, November 26).
“So even if (the vote) isn’t tomorrow, then it could be next Monday. There’s nothing wrong with that anyway,” the source said.
However, the source said his ministry has yet to receive any official notification from Parliament on the matter.
A senior official at the Ministry of Plantation and Commodity Industries, who declined to be named, said the minister was supposed to deliver his liquidation speech on Thursday (November 26).
“However, it is difficult to say if all the ministries will be able to finish everything on time.
“Either the ministers shorten their speeches or they may have to extend (the allotted time) the closing speeches,” he said.
Another source said that there have been rumors that the vote on the 2021 Budget has been postponed, but there is no official word yet.
This will be the third time the voting date has been changed.
The initial date for the end of ministerial responses in the policy stage on Parliament’s calendar was November 23, but it was moved to November 25 and then again to November 26.
A total of 80 lawmakers have participated in budget debates at the policy stage, and 27 ministries have yet to respond.
So far, only eight ministries have completed their responses, with 19 more left to do so on Thursday (November 26).
Several lawmakers asked for more time to debate the Budget, due to the new Covid-19 SOPs in the Dewan Rakyat which has limited procedures until 2pm every day.
There have been rumors among opposition lawmakers and various government supporters about support for the budget.
On November 6, Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz presented the budget of $ 322.5 billion for 2021 in Parliament.
