Usually we would have to wait for certain people to receive a unit of an upcoming piece of hardware to see a complete teardown of that device. However, Sony has decided to go ahead and upload a teardown video of its own, with none other than its highly anticipated PlayStation 5 (PS5) video game console.
AD
The video, which was uploaded to the official PlayStation blog and YouTube channel, features the company’s head of mechanical design, Yasuhiro Ootori, introducing the new console. True to what it was previously reportedSeeing him alongside the Sony executive further shows just how massive the PS5 really is.
Also shown in the video prior to teardown are the various ports, vents and exhaust ports available on the console. Specifically, on the front there is a USB-C port and a USB-A port with high-speed support, while on its rear there are two SuperSpeed USB-A ports, a LAN port, an HDMI OUT port and a port. AC IN. Ootori also demonstrated the practicality of the PS5 stand that can be used to display the console in both portrait and landscape orientation.
The side panels were surprisingly easy to remove as seen during the start of the teardown, which would later reveal the massive console cooling fan on top. Ootori pointed out that there are two dust collectors on one side of the device, which can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner. Also shown is the storage expansion slot for installing an M.2 interface SSD with PCIe 4.0 support.
The Sony executive then went on with the full teardown, which revealed that almost every component of the PS5, from its Blu-ray drive to its motherboard, is surprisingly easy to remove. This would definitely come in handy in the future, especially when it comes to cleaning or repairing the console.
Without a doubt, seeing how easy it was to disassemble the console made us interested in trying it ourselves, especially to analyze each and every one of the components that make up the PS5. However, we are still more than a month away from doing so, let alone testing its gaming capabilities and other features.
You can watch the embedded video below if you want to see the full teardown of the console.
The PlayStation 5 is scheduled to launch in select countries, including the US, Japan, and South Korea in November 12, 2020. It will then be available in other regions starting November 19. Malaysia is likely to be included in the latter.
