Cyberpunk 2077 is a buggy mess, especially on the original next-gen consoles. Developer CD Projekt Red issued a statement that it will comply with refund requests. Digital purchases must also go to their respective stores for the refund process. But it seems that it is not something that CDPR can really guarantee. Sony Interactive Entertainment appears to deny many of these refund requests for the game.

Frustrated gamers are venting their failed attempts to get a refund for their copy of Cyberpunk 2077 on Twitter. And it’s a similar pattern across all of them. Essentially, SIE is denying refunds based on the fact that the game has been downloaded. The exception here is “unless content is faulty” which is as broad and unclear as a statement can be.
So today’s update, Sony support declined another refund for # Cyberpunk2077. They said that even if the developers claim to refund it, they won’t. He lied about the game not being broken and he lied about what CDPR said. Tl: dr is stuck with a broken game, please wait until we fix it. Some support. pic.twitter.com/MsyI11VCGO

@CyberpunkGame So CD Projekt Red came along and said they would accept refunds for PS4 owners.
Sony? Not that much. If you downloaded it, they won’t refund the title. pic.twitter.com/TUutotHl3b

On top of that, the promise of a Cyberpunk 2077 refund is one that CDPR cannot deliver, as the company itself admits. At an emergency board meeting, Michał Nowakowski, CDPR’s senior vice president of business development, said refunds are still dependent on existing policies from both Sony and Microsoft.

Literally, Sony gaming stations respond to people regardless of #CDProjektRed refund statement #tear pic.twitter.com/WwhJfeL4nN– Heather (vggsheagurl) (@ Heatherma29) December 14, 2020
@ Play station @AskPlayStation you are complete clowns. @CDPROJEKTRED @CyberpunkGame I said I can get a refund and you want to tell me this pic.twitter.com/gynnaMw9E0

It’s a complicated situation, to say the least. And it all goes against what was happening earlier this week, when people report having success getting their copies of Cyberpunk 2077 for PS4. Things apparently changed after CDPR’s official refund statement. Then there is the opacity and inconsistency of SIE rebates that make things even more confusing.
