ARAU (Bernama): Police arrested five locals, two men and three women, aged 30 to 58, for alleged involvement in falsifying documents related to the custody of a three-month-old baby.

Arau’s OCPD assistant Nanda Ma’arof said police received on Tuesday (May 5) a report from the Department of Social Welfare (JKM) that a nurse was unable to locate the baby during a routine checkup at the family home in Taman Desa Pauh, Arau.

“When asked by JKM officials, the 30-year-old mother did not explain the baby’s whereabouts and even tried to hide the baby’s identity from authorities,” he said when contacted.

Supt Nanda said that as a result of the investigation, the police discovered that the baby had been released to a Penang couple through the mother’s aunt on Thursday (May 7).

Further investigation found that the couple had registered the baby as their biological child on Alor Setar, he said.

Supt Nanda said that all suspects were referred for two days for further investigation and the case was being investigated under Section 48 (2) of the 2001 Juvenile Law.- Bernama
