KUALA LUMPUR: The National Security Council (MKN) is holding talks with the Ministry of Youth and Sports to allow more sports activities to take place, Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.
At a press conference today, Ismail said the ministry had requested that outdoor sports activities, such as soccer and futsal, be resumed after travel restrictions were eased.
He said the ministry was currently preparing the necessary documents for MKN to study.
Ismail added that they are still in talks with the Ministry of Tourism, Art and Culture to reopen tourist attractions, after receiving numerous requests from tour operators in the country.
“We have asked the Ministry of Tourism to provide a list of suggestions and which parts of the industry they think should be able to reopen.”
He also said MKN would discuss with the Sarawak government the possibility of relaxing the mandatory 14-day quarantine rule for travelers returning to the state for Christmas.
“All current SOPs are to protect Sarawak, which is an ecological state. But I will discuss with MKN and the Sarawak state government about those who wish to return and celebrate Christmas. “
On the daily enforcement of the law against those who committed crimes related to MCO, Ismail said that yesterday the police arrested 254 people. All received fines.
Most were sanctioned for not wearing masks, not recording customer data and not practicing physical distancing.
Authorities also detained 28 undocumented immigrants and seized a boat and three vehicles as part of Ops Benteng’s ongoing campaign.
Ismail added that 690 people returned to Malaysia yesterday from various countries, all of which are currently in mandatory quarantine.
