Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Manchester United is close to closing a deal for Amad Diallo and says he is “very excited” to welcome the teenage winger to Old Trafford.

The Premier League club agreed to an initial £ 19 million deal to sign Diallo from Italian club Atalanta in October.

The move depended on Diallo obtaining a work permit and Solskjaer believes the necessary documentation has been approved to allow the 18-year-old to complete his move to Manchester United.

Speaking after the 2-1 win over Aston Villa, Solskjaer said: ‘We’ve had all the paperwork, I don’t see any obstacles. He’s coming.

I hope you will be with us very soon. I am very excited to bring it. I think it has shown its qualities a few times.

Of course you have to learn to play in England, that’s a different level of football. We will give you time to develop and express yourself.

Apart from that, I am not thinking too much about what we are going to do with the players. Of course, we always work long term.

That is the most important. We have long-term goals that we need for the club.

Diallo has made five appearances for Atalanta’s first team, scoring on his debut against Udinese in October 2019. Diallo’s structured deal could amount to £ 36m.

The teenager will join a Manchester United team that is joint leaders of the Premier League after their win over Aston Villa.

Speaking after the victory, Solskjaer said: ‘We have improved. I think the league and the season are going to be very tight.

“We have to keep working and improving as a team. Every time you win a game, you take one more step.

‘You just have to accumulate the points. They all count the same.
