Manchester United’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United at Old Trafford will continue on Sunday night, despite a Covid-19 outbreak in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.

Up to three members of Solskjaer’s backroom team have been forced to self-isolate after coming into close contact with a person who had tested positive for coronavirus.

The coaches tested positive for Covid-19 and did not travel to Turin for Thursday’s 4-0 win over Real Sociedad.

In a short statement, United confirmed that both Nicky Butt and Mark Dempsey will join Solskjaer on the bench for the Toon clash.

“Nicky Butt and Mark Dempsey will join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on the bench tonight as some members of the coaching staff have to isolate themselves,” a statement read.

“The Premier League game at home against Newcastle United at Old Trafford will start at 19:00 GMT.”

Solskjaer asks for help

Solskjaer’s backroom staff includes Mike Phelan, Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher, and Kieran McKenna. However, the fact that the services of Butt and Dempsey are required suggests that all four are in self-isolation.

United closed its training center after the results of three positive tests and a deep clean was carried out in Carrington.

However, United remains confident that it has stopped the spread to any member of the gaming staff.

The Red Devils hope to capitalize on the lost points of the top four rivals Liverpool and Chelsea when they face Steve Bruce’s men.
