Manchester United are set to bid on a striker as insurance for Jadon Sancho, as two midfielders prepare to leave, while Leeds nears two exciting signings, according to Monday newspaper gossip..
MAN UTD MAKE AN OFFER MILIK
Manchester United will make a firm bid this week to sign Napoli forward Arkadiusz Milik.
The Polish striker is being pursued by Tottenham, but reports in Italy, via Sun, say United is now leading the charge.
They claim that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified Milik as his number one target for the window should efforts to award Jadon Sancho fail.
United is preparing a final £ 90 million offer to award Borussia Dortmund’s Sancho this week. However, if his offer fails, Milik is claimed to be largely his backup plan.
As such, talks have been held with Napoli to get the ball rolling on a possible deal.
The 26-year-old has scored 48 goals in 122 games with Gil Azzurri. But he has been left out of his team so far this season, as they seek to move it forward.
Milik is more comfortable playing as a center forward, but can operate on the right side of attack.
Solskjaer is determined to strengthen his attacking options after ruling out defensive reinforcements before the window closes.
Speaking after the Brighton win, Solskjaer said: “We have a lot of defenders here and I put Eric [Bailly] to strengthen the defense.
“For me, we have enough good centers here at the moment.”
Meanwhile, United could add to their coffers by selling two midfield stars who are apparently not in Solskjaer’s mind.
According Sun, Lazio is in talks with United about an agreement to sign Brazilian midfielder Andreas Pereira.
However, during negotiations, the name of Juan Mata also approached. Reports suggest that the pair could be transferred to the Italians if an acceptable offer is made.
