Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is willing to sell winger Daniel James in one last bet to fund a play by Jadon Sancho, according to a report.
Borussia Dortmund winger Sancho is United’s primary goal in this transfer window. However, the Red Devils have made little progress on a deal as Dortmund is unwilling to sell for less than £ 108 million.
As such, United have turned their attention to alternative wide players, including Barcelona. Ousmane Dembele.
According to ESPN however, Solskjaer feels “determined” to sign Sancho before Monday’s transfer deadline. In a desperate belated plan, he is reportedly willing to sell James for £ 25 million.
The Wales international has been in mixed form since his £ 18 million move from Swansea last summer. In fact, he has only scored four goals in 47 appearances and is struggling to gain playing time.
ESPN adds that Solskjaer and his coaching staff do not feel James he has the potential to become an established star at Old Trafford.
Therefore, they hope to sell the 22-year-old for £ 25 million, posting a profit of £ 7 million. Most importantly, however, the funds would go a long way toward enabling United to pay Sancho.
Solskjaer’s plan met resistance
However, Solskjaer’s plan has not gone well with United Executive Vice President Ed Woodward.
Woodward feels that selling James after just one year would send a “negative message”, with United known around the world for its commitment to developing young players.
In any case, United have already aroused great interest from Leeds, ESPN adds. The new guys in the Premier League flopped with a loan offer for one season.
In fact, Leeds practically signed to the extreme last January before the move flopped.
Unidos looks at Sancho’s new alternative
Amid ongoing discussions about a deal for Sancho, United they are actively looking for alternatives.
Like Dembélé, Fiorentina’s Federicho Chiesa is a consideration, but one approach for the Italian has failed.
