KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The Social Security Organization (Socso) has so far identified 30 cases of false claims related to the misuse of funds from the wage subsidy scheme (PSU) since it was introduced last March.
Its executive director Datuk Seri Dr. Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed (Photo) He said that there would be no compromise with employers falsifying documents, adding that the cases involve, among others, companies from Kedah, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
“We (Socso) take this matter seriously and note that we will work together with the authorities, including the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to take legal action.
Of the 30 cases, Kedah has eight cases, Selangor (six), Kuala Lumpur (five), Perak (three), Johor and Pahang two cases respectively, and one each from Kelantan, Sarawak, Sabah and Penang. We anticipate that several more cases will be identified, “he told a news conference in Menara Perkeso on Friday (October 9).
As such, Mohammed Azman urged employers who had submitted false claims or inaccurate information to come forward or contact Socso to return funds under the PSU, hiring incentives, and employee retention programs.
Since the PSU was launched, a total of 281 complaints have been filed against employers who did not pass on incentive payments to their employees.
It also confirmed MACC’s statement issued on October 7 regarding the managing director of a Selangor company who has been detained for assisting in investigations into alleged fraudulent claims for wage subsidy assistance.
“The case involved 185 employees and payments of around RM415,000. It is one of the 30 cases we have identified,” he said, adding that employers have been paid RM11.8bil in wage subsidies. – Bernama
