KUALA LUMPUR: The Social Security Organization (Socso) has disbursed more than RM14.1 billion in assistance to more than 350,000 employers involving 2.7 million workers under various stimulus packages announced by the government during the current Covid-19 crisis.
Its CEO Datuk Seri, Dr. Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed, said Socso is now continuing its efforts with five initiatives under the Budget 2021 and Malaysia (Permai) Rakyat and Economic Protection Assistance Package to ensure that no be left behind during this crisis.
“There is PenjanaKerjaya which covers hiring incentives, youth training and apprenticeship programs, extended job search subsidy (JSA) under the Employment Insurance System (EIS) and specific wage subsidy program for the tourism and trade industry retailer, which was also extended by one month to all employers affected by the implementation of the MCO (Movement Control Order). “
He said so in his speech at the signing of the Strategic Partnership Agreement between Socso and Universiti Malaya (UM) at the university here today. The event was also streamed live on Socso’s Facebook page.
Mohammed Azman said that the other initiatives under Socso included the SPS Lindung, a fully government-subsidized contribution for 100,000 workers from the groups selected under the Social Security Plan for Independent Workers and the Covid-19 Detection Program targeting foreign workers in the whole country.
“Socso is committed to doing the best in its ability to support people and the economy, as efficient social security administration is the key to managing rising unemployment and maintaining the livelihoods of people in need of assistance. during this pandemic.
“The pandemic has shown that the country cannot revive without a strong social protection ecosystem and this requires close collaboration and synergy between different industry players in the field,” he added.
Socso and UM today signed a five-year strategic partnership agreement, setting out an action plan for the university’s Social Welfare Research Center (SWRC), a center funded by the Employee Provident Fund (EPF), to support Socso’s capacity building objectives and positively contribute to the development of Malaysia’s social security ecosystem through specialized programs.
The association focuses on three key strategic areas, namely capacity building, research and advocacy with the aim of strengthening knowledge and awareness of social security among Socso employees and the public.
