KUALA LUMPUR: The government will implement the proposal that the monthly assistance from the Department of Social Welfare (JKM) of between RM200 and RM300 be increased to RM1,000 as soon as possible.

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said he would ensure that eligible aid recipients have the same opportunities to live their lives as any other member of society.

“Taking into account the current financial situation and the cost of living, I have proposed that JKM’s monthly assistance to eligible beneficiaries be increased to RM1,000 from the current amount of between RM200 and RM300.

“And of course People with Disabilities (PwD) are included in this group of people who will benefit from the increase. I will make sure the proposal is implemented immediately, ”he said in a post on his official Facebook page in conjunction with today’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

It was reported that Muhyiddin, in August this year, had proposed increasing the monthly allowance to help the disabled community, which is part of the B40 group, as part of the aspirations of the Perikatan Nasional government under his leadership.

Muhyiddin said that the disabled are a community that is always close to him and the government, and they are given due attention.

“I have personally gone to the field to meet with this group, such as during my visits to the flats of Desa Rejang PPR in Setapak, here, and the PPR of Taman Sri Keramat in Putatan, Sabah,” he explained.

He said that the government, through the Ministry of Finance, had announced several initiatives for the group during the recent presentation of the Budget 2021, including increasing the monthly allowance for unemployed PwDs from RM250 to RM300, for PwD employees from RM400 to RM450 and for PwD. care from RM350 to RM500.

According to JKM records, he said that the number of people with diabetes registered in Malaysia now stands at 581,265 and he hoped that the campaign to register more people with disabilities could be intensified to ensure that no one is left behind.

“This is important to ensure that they are not left behind in obtaining help from the government, especially when facing difficult times during the spread of Covid-19.

“I pray that people with disabilities have the best place in society so that they can also contribute to the development of the country. Happy International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2020 ”, said Muhyiddin.
