Soccer: Man United manager Solskjaer dismisses Keane’s criticism

(Reuters) – Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he is satisfied with the options available for each spot on his team, after former captain Roy Keane described the current group as “nothing good enough.”

After United lost 1-0 at home to Arsenal on Sunday, Keane, who managed United for more than eight years, said: “Ole will lose his job working with these players, that’s what’s going to happen.”

United have suffered losses in three of their first six Premier League matches and are ranked 15th in the table, but Solskjaer said they have enough quality to turn things around.

“Roy has always been outspoken. I am very happy to have the players I have here with us,” Solskjaer told reporters ahead of Wednesday’s game in Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League.

“We have different jobs. Roy’s job is to give his opinion. I always listen to Roy but here we move forward with a great group of players, a strong group of players.

“I’m sure we will see an answer.”

Solskjaer also defended Paul Pogba’s recent difficulties on the field, saying the Frenchman is still on the right track to find his best form at Old Trafford.

Pogba, who tested positive for COVID-19 at the start of the season, conceded a penalty for a foul to Hector Bellerin on Sunday before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang converted the penalty for the visitors.

“All the players are frustrated after the loss. We need consistency from each of our players,” Solskjaer said.

“Paul has had a difficult period with injuries, with COVID, so I think we have seen a lot of positives.”

Despite their domestic slump, United are enjoying a brilliant start to the Champions League, winning their first two games against Paris St Germain and RB Leipzig in Group H.
