PETALING JAYA: Don’t be surprised to read about a Malaysian girl mingling with the guys and scoring goals.

That will be Celine Chuang, 15, a budding future soccer star who struts with one of Germany’s biggest soccer clubs – Bayern Munich.

The winger of the U-15 national team made history when she became the first Malaysian footballer to play for FC Bayern Women’s U-17 second squad since July this year.

“All my efforts over the years paid off when I was selected as one of 10 players to join the second squad of FC Bayern Women U-17,” said Celine.

“I am also grateful for the opportunity to play for the Wacker Munchen eV men’s U-15 team.”

With her prior training experience with the U-13 and U-15 men’s team at the Cruzeiro Academy in Thailand, Celine is used to practicing with male partners.

“Playing and training with Wacker Munchen eV has given me more confidence and allowed me to improve my football techniques,” he said.

Sharing her experiences during the four months of training in Germany, Celine said it took her a while to get used to the cold weather routine and overcome the initial language barrier.

“Despite the challenges, the community here has been incredibly welcoming from the beginning. Thanks to this, I have been able to adapt and settle down since I arrived in Germany in June ”.

His passion for soccer was unleashed after witnessing his older sister and brother play the game.

“I started seriously training in this sport about four years ago at the age of 11 at Persatuan Sukan Bintang Biru (PSBB), Penang.

“What I really love about the sport is the challenging new tricks and techniques that I learn during training.

“Playing soccer helps me keep a great mindset and relieves stress.”

With a strong desire to further improve her performance, Celine decided to move to Phuket, Thailand, to receive training at the British International School of Phuket (BISP) Cruzeiro Football Academy for two years before moving to Munich.

“The training I received in Malaysia was the foundation for my basics in the game.

“In Thailand, I learned about training intensity while training seven times a week.”

Celine rose to prominence when she scored her first international goal for the Malaysian U-15 women’s team at the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Championship in 2019, leading to a 2-1 win over Cambodia in Chonburi, Thailand.
