(Reuters) – Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says his team is “evolving” and that German midfielder Mesut Ozil will find it difficult to enter the team.
Ozil, whose contract expires next June, did not participate towards the end of last season and was not named to Arsenal’s team of the day for the first three games of the new campaign.
“The team is evolving and you can see the level they are achieving,” Arteta said after Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Leicester City in the League Cup on Wednesday. “We want to evolve more and play better, so we must maintain that.
“I try to select the players who, in my opinion, are in the best condition. We are choosing players who we think are the best for each game and, as you can see, we keep changing.
“You can see … that it is very difficult, not only for Mesut, but for some, to be part of the team. Every week, we try to choose the right players.”
Arsenal face champions Liverpool in the league on Monday.
