(Reuters) – Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho said Gareth Bale has worked hard to improve his fitness and will be ready to “fly” when he takes the field against Royal Antwerp in the Europa League later on Thursday.
Bale had been suffering from a knee injury since returning to Spurs last month on a season loan from Real Madrid, but has recovered in recent weeks.
Mourinho confirmed that Bale will start the Group J match and is confident that the Welsh international is ready to deliver.
“Bale is playing and we all have not just a feeling, but the data to show that Bale is coming,” Mourinho told reporters.
“He’s been a great example for everyone. A big guy like him traveled to Burnley, stayed on the bench for 90 minutes, didn’t play a minute.
“His demeanor as a team boy is amazing. We can already see Gareth at a good level and I hope he can fly because he’s working so hard.
