So far, no Indian or Chinese community representatives will be named in exco’s state lineup, says Perak MB

IPOH: Until now, no Indian or Chinese representatives will be appointed at the state government level to take care of community affairs, says Datuk Saarani Mohamad.

The Perak Mentri Besar said that this was because there were already representatives of these two communities in the local government.

“We cannot appoint an Indian or Chinese representative in the state executive council lineup, as we do not have legislators of both ethnicities in the formation of the Perikatan Nasional state government.

“But we have representatives for both communities in all local councils in all districts of the state,” he told reporters after presiding over his first exco meeting on Monday (December 14).

When asked if any Indian or Chinese would be appointed as his special officer or adviser, Saarani said such appointments would be made if the need arose.

He also said that former ex-co member Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohamad Radzi, who was in charge of the new villages in China and India, had submitted a list of names of village heads.

“The list had been approved by the previous state government and now we are at the implementation level,” he added.

In the formation of the new government, Gerakan Assemblyman A. Sivasubramaniam and independent Paul Yong had signed a legal declaration to support Saarani as Mentri Besar.

However, the duo is not part of the Perikatan coalition.
