KUCHING (December 5): The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has clarified that there were no ill intentions in rejecting Julau MP Larry Sng’s request to enter Sarawak, citing incomplete documentation as the reason why his previous requests were rejected.

In a statement today, SDMC Senior Deputy Minister and Acting Chairman Datuk Amar Tan Sri, Dr. James Masing, reported that Members of Parliament are included in the list of essential services where they would be exempt from quarantine with conditions.

He noted that SDMC has enforced and made it mandatory for those intending to enter Sarawak to submit the application through the enterSarawak app and fill out the Electronic Health Declaration form to safeguard the state during this pandemic.

“For members of parliament who attended the parliament session, a special standard operating procedure (SOP) was implemented to exempt them from quarantine to allow parliamentarians to better serve their constituents and the people.

“In order for essential services to be exempted, MPs will have to undergo a Covid-19 rT-PCR test and receive a negative result. They must also attach their official job letter and personal identification to complete the application process. Parliamentarians must also undergo a smear test for Covid-19 before the session of Parliament, ”he said.

Masing explained that SDMC found Sng’s application to be incomplete, stating on the rejection page that he did not submit the rT-PCR test result in the application.

“SDMC investigated YB Sng’s application and found that he submitted a total of five applications, of which his application was rejected three times for lack of documentation.

“Whereas on another occasion, the system had approved his application on condition of quarantine and not exemption, since his application was not provided with an rT-PCR test result,” he said.

Sng only attached and submitted his rT-PCR test and completed the required documentation on his fifth application attempt, he added.

“Following the procedure that his colleagues had followed, he was granted authorization to enter Sarawak with exemption from quarantine.”

SDMC reminded everyone that it is important to check your application and the comments made by the administrator on the status of your application, and any inquiries about applications should be directed to the SDMC hotline or the Sarawak Disaster Information Facebook page.

SDMC was responding to Sng’s complaint on Facebook on Friday night, where he expressed dissatisfaction with having his request to re-enter Sarawak after attending the parliamentary session in Kuala Lumpur.

He said he did not understand how the SDMC worked and said: “My colleague friend from the MP and I applied online around the same time to return to Sarawak this weekend.

“His application was successful after several attempts and he was allowed to enter Sarawak without quarantine,” he wrote.

Sng, who is the head of PKR Sarawak, alleged that when he applied he was asked to undergo a 14-day quarantine.

“When I reapplied, my application to enter Sarawak was rejected. Rejected a total of 3 times. Incredible! Too much politics and the worst thing is to use Covid-19 as a political tool. Shameful, ”he said.
