KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Fifteen men, including two Bangladeshis, who are suspected of being actively involved in the theft of vehicle exhaust, were arrested in three separate locations on Friday (November 27).

Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Arifai Tarawe (Photo) He said the suspects, aged 27 to 56, were detained in Rawang, Gombak and Sentul.

He said the suspects could make a profit of RM500 to RM2,000 depending on the type of exhaust box that had been cut to be sold to recycling facilities and vehicle extraction workshops.

“The union was found to have been active since the middle of the year based on reports received about the loss of exhaust boxes,” he said at the Gombak district police headquarters here on Monday (November 30).

He said the suspects were believed to be targeting cars that were parked on front porches at night and in quiet spots.

Arifai said police were still investigating all of the suspects to determine their involvement in the vehicle exhaust theft activities.

“They are believed to be linked to nine missing car exhaust boxes reported in Selangor,” he said.

He said the suspects were detained until Monday and that the case was being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code. – Bernama
