SEGAMAT: A family of 16, including a two-year-old, from Labis here, tested positive for Covid-19 after attending a family reunion in the Klang Valley.

According to a source from the Ministry of Health, they had all been living in the same house in Labis and had visited other relatives in the red zones of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor between December 17 and 25.

He said the family gatherings included the presence of another 60-year-old relative, who later died of Covid-19 on January 3.

The deceased, who had high blood pressure and diabetes, was said to have developed a fever, cough and breathing difficulties after returning to Segamat.

The 16 family members also returned to Segamat from the Klang Valley in late December to visit the woman.

She was later sent to Segamat Hospital for treatment before passing away.

The day after the old woman’s death, one of her relatives tested positive for Covid-19, the source said.

“Contact tracing and follow-ups carried out by the Ministry of Health found that 16 of the old man’s family members had Covid-19.

“They were quarantined while some were kept in hospital for necessary treatments,” he said.
