SINGAPORE, Oct. 17 (The Straits Times / ANN): Three new coronavirus cases were confirmed as of noon on Saturday (Oct. 17), bringing Singapore’s total to 57,904.
They included a community case and another living in a worker’s bedroom, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said on Saturday.
There was also an imported case, which had received a notice of detention upon arrival in Singapore.
The three cases were also one of the lowest seen in the Republic since the pandemic began. More details will be announced Saturday night.
On Friday, the Health Ministry reported that, for the first time since March 12, there were fewer than 100 active cases of coronavirus in Singapore.
He added that 30 patients remain in the hospital, none in intensive care, while 59 are recovering in community facilities. These add up to 89 active cases as of Friday.
Nine new coronavirus cases were reported on Friday.
None of them were community patients.
Of the new cases, eight were imported, including two Singaporeans, four work permit holders and two short-term visit pass holders.
Both the Singaporeans and two work permit holders returned from the Philippines. One holder of a work permit and one holder of a short-term visit pass returned from Indonesia. The remaining holder of the short-term visit pass and the holder of the work permit returned from India and Myanmar, respectively.
All imported cases were placed on stay-at-home notices upon arrival in Singapore, the Health Ministry said.
The last new case on Friday was a migrant worker who was examined as part of routine testing of dormitory workers. He was asymptomatic when he was tested.
The group at Jovell’s construction site in Upper Changi has been closed because there have been no new cases linked to it for 28 days or two incubation periods.
The number of new daily cases in the community has remained stable at an average of less than one case per day in the last two weeks. The number of unrelated cases in the community has decreased from an average of less than one case per day to no cases during the same period.
Globally, the virus outbreak, which began in December last year, has infected more than 38.8 million people. More than 1.09 million people have died. – The Straits Times / Asian News Network
