SINGAPORE (The Straits Times / ANN): All non-Singaporean travelers from India and permanent residents will need to take a Covid-19 test before departing for Singapore.
Beginning next Thursday (September 17), they will need to submit a valid negative result from a polymerase chain reaction test which must be taken within 72 hours before their flight here.
This new and stricter border restriction, which covers travelers who were in India within 14 days of arrival in Singapore, will apply in addition to the existing requirements: a two-week stay-at-home notice at the SHN exclusive facilities and an additional negative Covid. 19 test before the end of the SHN.
In announcing this on Wednesday (September 9), the Ministry of Health (MINSA) pointed to reports of a resurgence of infections in India. A “significant number” of imported cases in Singapore also have a history of recent travel to India, he said.
A one-year-old Singaporean baby who arrived from India on August 24 was the only imported case on Tuesday.
By Monday, two of the three imported cases had arrived from India. The third case was from the Philippines.
India reported 89,706 new coronavirus infections on Wednesday, bringing its total number to 4.3 million and making it the second-highest country after the United States.
The Health Ministry said it will continue to adjust border measures to manage the risk of importing more cases that may lead to transmission in the wider community.
He said travelers should be prepared to undergo screening measures upon entry, including paying for their stay at SHN facilities and tests. – The Straits Times / Asia News Network
