SINGAPORE: On Sunday (May 3) the Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed a total of 657 new cases of Covid-19 (coronavirus), bringing the total number to 18,205.

The vast majority of these cases are work permit holders residing in dormitories of foreign workers, the Ministry of Health said.

Ten are Singaporean or permanent residents.

The number of migrant worker cases has been fluctuating in recent days as a laboratory was cleaning up backlogged cases, the health ministry said.

The ministry added that it is working with the laboratory to stabilize its operations.

More details on the cases will be shared in a press release on Sunday, the ministry added.

This is the 10th day in a row that new daily infections fell below 1,000, with local cases excluding those in dorms that remain low.

The average number of such cases has dropped to 12 in the past week, from 23 the week before.

During the same periods, unrelated cases have also dropped to an average of 6 per day from a daily average of 14 cases.

On Saturday, the coronavirus task force of various ministries said that some companies such as barbers, home bakers and laundry services will be able to resume operations on May 12. – The Straits Times / Asian News Network
