SINGAPORE, Feb.22 (The Straits Times / ANN): 10 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed as of noon Monday, bringing Singapore’s total to 59,879.

There was one community case, while the other nine were imported cases that had already been placed on a stay-at-home notice upon arrival in Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.

On Sunday, the Health Ministry announced that a Malaysian truck driver who tested positive for Covid-19 last Thursday was under investigation for visiting the Casino Resorts World Sentosa nine days earlier on a previous trip.

The independent dealer had tested negative at the checkpoint on February 8 and visited the casino on February 9, before leaving for Malaysia the same day.

He was denied entry to Singapore last Thursday after his rapid antigen test at Woodlands Checkpoint came back positive, the Health Ministry said.

His polymerase chain reaction test also came back positive for Covid-19 infection last Friday.

“Malaysian truckers are not allowed to mix in the community other than for delivery purposes and must not stay overnight. Investigations are underway to assess whether there was any violation of the relevant existing measures,” the Health Ministry said.

He added: “We will take all necessary public health actions as a precautionary measure, including quarantining all identified close contacts.”

The driver has not been included in the Singapore case count as he was not allowed into Singapore after testing positive.

11 cases of Covid-19 were reported on Sunday, all imported and placed on a stay-at-home notice upon arrival here.

Ten were asymptomatic and were detected from the surveillance and proactive detection of the Ministry of Health.

Two Singaporeans and a permanent resident had returned from India and Nepal.

The rest came from India, the United Arab Emirates, Myanmar, Mexico, Bangladesh and Indonesia.

With 12 patients discharged on Sunday, 59,716 have fully recovered from the virus.

A total of 22 patients remain in the hospital, including one in critical condition in intensive care, while 87 are still recovering in community facilities.

Singapore has had 29 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive died from other causes.

Globally, the virus outbreak, which began in December 2019, has infected more than 110 million people. More than 2.4 million people have died. – The Straits Times / ANN
