KUCHING (Dec 17): Sibu is now classified as a yellow zone after a new case of local transmission of Covid-19 was reported today, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said.

SDMC said the case involved a local man, who underwent a Covid-19 health screening before returning to work in Papua New Guinea.

“The state of Sibu has changed from a green zone to a yellow zone due to this case of local transmission.

“Serian remains a yellow zone since the division reported a local transmission case in the last 14 days,” SDMC said in its daily update statement.

SDMC said the only active cluster in the state is Besi Cluster in Kuching, with a total number of 12 cases, including its index case.

Sarawak had no new recoveries or downloads at present, and the total of those cases was unchanged at 1,046 or 96.49 percent of the total.

“Twelve cases are still being treated at Sarawak General Hospital, while another six cases are seeking treatment at Sibu Hospital and one case at Bintulu Hospital.”

SDMC said the state has recorded 42 cases of persons under investigation (PUI), two of which are still awaiting laboratory test results.
