President Azhar Azizan Harun said that Vice Minister Willie Mongin denied showing his middle finger at the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Rakyat Chairman Azhar Azizan Harun told the House that he cannot issue a ruling on a deputy minister accused of showing the middle finger, stating that he was unable to see the act due to poor vision.

He said he had asked Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodity Industries, Willie Mongin, for an explanation of the opposition MPs’ claims.

He said Mongin denied throwing the bird.

“After that, I watched the video in slow motion and couldn’t determine whether it was carried out or not,” he told MPs urging that action be taken against the MP from Puncak Borneo.

Because of that, Azhar said, his decision was that he could not determine whether the claims were true, and he urged those unhappy with his decision to put forward a motion in writing.

Later, Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka) proposed to Azhar if he could go to the Spokesman’s office to show him the “middle finger” images.

Azhar replied, “YB, Kota Melaka, please come to my office.”

Khoo said he will visit the speaker’s office later.

Yesterday, Kasthuri Patto (PH-Batu Kawan) claimed that Mongin showed his middle finger twice at the Dewan Rakyat.

This incident allegedly took place minutes before the 2021 budget vote of the ministry of plantation and commodity industries at the committee stage.

Mongin, the deputy minister, had previously read the closing speech on behalf of the ministry.
